If you have been following along with me for any length of time, you know I love to use aged paper for decorating. There are too many examples of beautiful aged paper decor ideas to share in one post, so I chose three of my favorites. They are sheet music, recipe cards, and book pages. So here we go, 11 easy aged paper decor ideas you need to try!
3 Ways To Decorate With Vintage Sheet Music and Flowers
Sheet music and flowers are one of my favorite combinations. Below are several examples of how I used sheet music for floral displays.
1.Wrap a vase with vintage sheet music.
The first blooms of the year deserve to be in the spotlight. These roses were placed in a glass jar, wrapped with sheet music, and tied with natural string. I then placed the jar in an old instrument case filled with greens from the yard, a couple of vintage white birds, and tied a ribbon on the handle.
2. Wrap, tie, and hang bouquets of dried roses with sheet music.
I took roses and eucalyptus, wrapped them with the sheet music and hung them right on the cabinet to dry.
3. Line a basket with sheet music, add a vase and fresh flowers.
This large rusted metal basket was filled with sheet music placed in random directions. It made a bigger statement than just the clear glass jar of flowers. I think bunched up fabric would also look good for this.
4 Ways To Use Vintage Recipe Cards For Home Decor
Ideas 4-7 for decorating with vintage paper use recipe cards. I found an old recipe box at an estate sale full of handwritten recipes.
4. Line the back of a cabinet with vintage recipe cards.
I used liquid starch to adhere the cards to the back of the cupboard. This makes it easy to remove and probably won’t even damage the cards. I will share a link below to the instructions for using starch as an adhesive.
5. Display recipe cards in a vintage flower frog.
6. Hang a plate on the wall, wrap with string, and tuck in a recipe card.
7. Add handwritten recipe cards to the front of wooden boxes or drawers.
I really love this project. I filled the entire shelf with these old drawers. They have such a great industrial look, yet the recipe cards keep it homey. The cards are attached with old upholstery tacks, and then I added knobs.
3 Ways To Decorate With Old Book Pages
In the next three projects, I used liquid starch to adhere the book pages.
8. Cover a cabinet door with book pages.
You can find old paper back books at the thrift store that have stained pages. I like to find different shades and mix them.
9. Cover a faux fireplace insert with book pages.
10. Line a drawer with botanical book pages.
In this post on using starch to adhere paper, I share the makeover of this desk. Pretty botanical pages from a “how to care for roses” book were used to line the drawer. I always watch for these types of books at the thrift stores.
11. Hang Sheet Music On A Mirror
This idea actually uses 3 kinds of aged paper to decorate the mantel, sheet music, book pages, and dance cards from the 1800’s. The dance cards are displayed in the bowl and are one of my favorite antique paper finds.
That’s a wrap on my 11 vintage paper ideas! I am thinking more paper posts will be coming. Ephemera ideas, stained paper ideas, post card ideas, I just love the possibilities!

I also love vintage papers, beautiful ideas! I never heard of dancing cards?

Thank you! Dance cards were worn around the ladies wrists at a dance. They would record the names of the men they were going to dance with in sequential order. So romantic!
