How To Make Paper Bag Stars For Christmas Decor

by Janet Clark at Home

This year my kitchen Christmas decor is simple and natural, and maybe a little bit whimsical. Brown craft paper has always been a favorite of mine at Christmas, so it was no surprise that I fell in love with paper bag stars. These stars, dried orange slices, gingerbread, and my red transferware dishes, are the foundation of my Christmas kitchen decor. Today I am going to share how to make paper bag stars for Christmas decor.

Last year I decorated my French drying rack with spindles. You can see the post here. I was looking for something fun to do this year, and these paper bag stars were just the ticket!

These stars are very popular and there are many tutorials. I followed the one from The Merrythought.

I wanted three different sizes of stars, so I just used the same lunch bags and cut off the top. Regular size, 1 1/2 inches cut off, and 3 inches cut off created the three sizes.

These are the three designs I cut out. Because I was making multiples, I made a template. I also made two stacks of 4 paper bags, 8 total. It was much easier to cut the design that way. After cutting, just glue the two stacks together, and then the ends.

And that’s it. I used fishing line and tied the paper bag stars to my french drying rack. These stars are a very simple design, but I have seen so many variations. It would be fun to try some more intricate patterns. Or make different colors?

Quick, easy, and cost only pennies to make! I will be sprinkling a few more around the house. And stay tuned for how to make this joy banner.
