Are you ready for spring? We have had a few beautiful spring like days mixed in with some not so beautiful winter days, but it definitely feels like spring to me! It’s a little early for blooms, but not for bunnies. I found a pair of bunnies at the thrift store last year, so I gave them a quick makeover and added a little spring to the dining room cupboard. Here is my version of how to decorate a cottage style hutch for spring.
How to Decorate a Cottage Style Hutch for Spring
I have been rearranging my dining room, so the cupboard was a blank slate. First I filled it with my ironstone collection and books, then I started adding some spring items.
Adding Green to the Cupboard
Green and spring go hand in hand, the green grass, spring flower stems, the new tree leaves, I love it! I added greens here and there in the cupboard. You will notice they are in a pattern, similar to an “x”. This creates movement that draws the eye around the display. I used a book, moss, a dried hydrangea bloom, and flower stems.
Diy Stone Painted Bunnies
I found this pair of bunnies at the thrift store last year, and now it was time to give them a makeover. I did the easy stone painting technique that I used for these thrift store statues. After they were painted, I went back and touched them up. The bunnies dark eyes were looking a little creepy. I added a little more white, and covered some of the black areas that were too dark. You can’t mess it up, just keep layering until you get the right look.
Make a Bunny Spring Centerpiece Display
Using a large ironstone tureen, I added a cup and cardboard to elevate the bunny and make a surface to hold the moss.
The first layer I added was Spanish moss.
Next was some green moss. You can find these mosses in the floral department at the craft store.
I cut the individual flowers off this floral stem that I purchased from At Home.
Then I just tucked them in the tureen.
The bunny got a ribbon tied around his neck and then I added a few grapevine twigs for added texture. A few wooden eggs place on a plate with Spanish moss completes the vignette.
The other bunny was placed on the green book on the right side of the cupboard. A plump bird sitting on a real nest and a sheet music flower complete this side.
On the top shelf, I filled a china bowl with books, a wooden shoe form, and a cup filled with more green moss. Books in soft shades of cream, tans and greens look so pretty for spring. And finally, I plopped a dried hydrangea bloom from last summer in an old wooden box with some rolled up vintage paper documents.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of how to decorate a cottage style hutch for spring!

Did you do anything with the bunnies (paint or anything like that) before you decorated with them? It looks so cute how you displayed them

Thank you! I did a faux stone painting technique on them that I shared in a previous post. I don’t know if you noticed the link in this post, but you can click where it says “thrift store statues” to see how I painted them. Thanks again!
