How To Make A Simple Fall Garland

by Janet Clark at Home

A cottage living room with a DIY fall garland

It’s that time of year when we want to cozy up our homes and bring in the colors of the season. Simple and neutral is what I crave for fall decor. That being said, I do not (or didn’t) actually own any fall decor. When it came time to add a few fall touches in the living room, I opted for a simple DIY garland for the mantel. Today I am going to share how to make a simple fall garland.

Stock Cabinet Vanity Makeover

An upgraded vanity for the powder room

Powder Room Refresh – Part 2

A few (many) weeks ago I began a refresh of our powder room. As always, one of my main goals is to spend as little money as possible. So this meant giving the current vanity a facelift. Also, the flooring was put in around the vanity, so that was even more incentive to not have to replace it. Today I am going to show you one way to give a stock cabinet vanity a makeover.

A New Buffet For The Kitchen

by Janet Clark at Home

I had been looking for a new piece of furniture to put in the kitchen dining area. When I switched our round dining table with the farm table, it left more room for a narrow “something”. The “something” I found was very smelly and the hardware needed a little makeover. Today I am going to share how I spruced up a new buffet for the kitchen.

How To Build A Wood Corner Beam

by Janet Clark at Home

Powder Room Refresh Part 1

A couple of weeks ago I started a very budget friendly powder room refresh, as opposed to a remodel. I removed wallpaper, rewired and hung a vintage chandelier, and added a faux beam to the corner. Today I want to share the progress I have made and show how to build a distressed wood corner beam.

Drying Flowers For Fall Decor

by Janet Clark at Home

Today I am sharing my carefree, casual way of drying flowers. I don’t have a flower garden and I’m not fussy about how I dry the flowers, but they are almost always beautiful. I love using dried flowers in my decor year round, but I especially love drying flowers for fall decor. It’s surprising what you can find in the yard for drying, if you just take the time to look around.

I made this dried flower hanging last year. You can see how I did it here. It was made with a few grocery store flowers, but most of it is from bits and pieces I found in my yard. This swag was perfect to use because I don’t have things with long stems, but the shorter bunches worked great. The flowers just dried on the hanging.

How To Create An Antique Finish

by Janet Clark at Home

This isn’t the typical “sand all the edges and add antiquing glaze” antique finish, or a super chippy kind of finish. This is “it has been repainted several times, but is showing some age” type of finish. I studied all kinds of antique mantels, including the one in my dining room, and I landed on this technique that feels so authentic. I am going to show you how to create an antique finish on a fireplace mantel and how to apply furniture appliques.
